30th Annual Kappa Sigma Apple Cup RunNovember 19-20-21, 2008
The men of Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Washington State University and the University of Washington made the 30th Annual Apple Cup Run in November. The Kappa Sigma Apple Cup Run is the longest running philanthropic event in Washington State University's Greek community.
The purpose of the Run was to raise money for a charitable organization and to celebrate the historic rivalry between the UW and WSU. Before every home Cougar football game, our members broke up into groups of 4 or 5 and mingle with Cougar fans to spread the word about our Apple Cup Run and raise money for our chosen charity. In November, we teamed with our chapter at the UW and Alpha Omega Tours and Charters shadowed us as we ran a football 350 miles between Seattle and Pullman.
Our charity in 2008:
In conjunction with a sister organization of the Intrepid Foundation, the Fisher House, our national fraternity has begun the Military Heroes Campaign. The Fisher House Foundation is a non-profit organization operating under the 501(c)(3) rules; their main objective is to build or buy houses which can be used for the rehabilitation and housing of an injured soldier and their family, they also help to coordinate fund-raising for these type of houses and equipment and necessary supplies. The reason why, nationally, Kappa Sigma fraternity has adopted this cause is because of the urging of one of our famous and most involved members: Lt. Paul V. Hester. |
